Founding member of JLGV, social justice activist and bilingual (Yiddish and English) writer, performer
Hinde Ena Burstin is a founding member of the Jewish Lesbian Group of Victoria (JLGV) and a lifelong
social justice activist. She was a member of the editorial collective of the on-line anthology “Jewish
Lesbians Down Under” and of the film production collective for “It’s Who We Are: Celebrating 20
Years of the Jewish Lesbian Group of Victoria.” Hinde Ena is an internationally published bilingual
(Yiddish and English) writer and performer and an award-winning Yiddish poetry translator.
She is a lecturer of Yiddish language, literature and culture, whose outstanding contribution to student
learning has been recognised by Monash University. She is currently completing her PhD on Yiddish
women’s voices of resistance. Her alter-ego/comedy character, radical Yiddishe buba/grandmother
